The AWSYC Library Announces the New P.A.W.S. Bookmobile!

The AWSYC Library is now offering P.A.W.S. training to parents through our P.A.W.S. Bookmobile!

Ms. Poe, our school counselor, has teamed up with the Library to bring P.A.W.S. training to our parents in their home. The librarian will bring you books, songs, and fingerplays and our counselor will provide you with free (yet valuable) materials that include best practices for helping you to teach your child social skills at home.

If you have younger children at home, the librarian will have a P.A.W.S Story Time with your children, while you get tips and ideas from our counselor.

What is P.A.W.S.?

Research says that children that are socially competent and have meaningful relationships are more likely to make an easier transition to school and achieve academic success (NAEYC, 2009).

To help your child develop social competence, AWSYC has started a new character development program that teaches students social skills called P.A.W.S., which stands for...

Positive Attitudes Will Succeed!

Access to Your Library

In order to better serve our students and parents, the library will open 30 minutes before school and close 45 minutes after school ends. We welcome student and parent use of the library during those times. There are a variety of informational resources available in the library as well as study areas to accommodate individual and group studying.

During the school day, we offer flexible scheduling to our teachers so that they can plan when the library will be most beneficial for their classroom objectives. The librarians enthusiastically welcome all members of the learning community to benefit from what the library has to offer!

The Ann Windle Library website, which can be accessed via the school website or directly at www.annwindlelibrary.com, also offers access to many library resources and services.

Some of the library information, resources, and services included on the site are:
  • Library hours and checkout guidelines

The AWSYC Library Bookmobile

Do you wish you could check out a book, but just cannot find the time? Do you want some new ideas about reading with your student at home? We want to help you! Parents can go to the library website and fill out a Bookmobile form and a preferred delivery time. You can be as specific in your request as you would like or leave it to the librarians to pick out some wonderful items!

Once a delivery time has been established one of your librarians will bring the items to your home. We will also provide information about various reading strategies, how to extend learning at home, and tips for engaging storytime experiences. The delivery service is available Monday through Friday each week, except school holidays, and you are also welcome to come by the library for any of this information.
